GETTING TRAVEL PLANS OFF THE GROUND DURING COVID.

The pandemic hit the travel industry hard, keeping planes on the ground and wanderlusters at home. Once travel restrictions lifted and the vaccine became available, newly vaccinated North Dakotans finalized plans to travel across the border to neighboring Canada. With the roads and skies reopened, nothing could stand in their way—or so they thought.

Getting vaccinated was just the first step for travelers. They still needed to know about travel requirements regarding COVID-19 testing, vaccination documentation, and other necessary information. The North Dakota Department of Health created a website with resources to promote safe travel, but they needed a statewide public awareness campaign directing travelers to it.

Travel is all about going places, so we set out to make North Dakota’s coronavirus travel website the first place for people to visit before hitting the road or taking off.

Our campaign for North Dakota’s COVID-19 travel website focused on encouraging travelers to get tested, vaccinated, and navigate the health-related details as part of an essential travel checklist. To better connect with people exhausted by coronavirus messaging, we took a lighter approach to raise awareness with a smile. The media plan called for gas pump advertising to reach people fueling up for their trips. Additionally, radio spots spoke to Canada-bound travelers and retirees heading south of the border. Campaign elements signed off with the confidence-boosting, reassuring theme, Your Resource For Safe Travel.
